Don’t Let The Pumpkins Fool You!

While pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice latte and pumpkin bread is lining the shelf, you may think these are healthy options for your smile. Stop! While pumpkin is very good for you, the extra sugar and other ingredients they put in those pies and drinks are not. The pumpkin spice latte has more sugar than a regular drink. The longer the sugar sits on your teeth the more at risk you are for not only other health problems, but it can also increase your risk of decay and cavities.

If you are going to consume pumpkin, eating it in the rawest form possible or adding other healthier ingredients to it can ensure you reap the benefits of a pumpkin without any of the other problems that may arise.

A healthy pumpkin smoothie can keep you going all day. Try adding a banana or nuts to blend in with coconut milk for a healthy option in the morning. Or make pumpkin muffins with coconut flour and sugar instead of granulated sugar and regular flour. You may even want to try a little pumpkin oil the next time you are cooking, as it has health benefits for the teeth as well.

Turn A New Leaf, With A New Healthy You!

This fall when everyone else is focused on Pumpkin Spice Latte’s and holiday fun, turn your holiday season into a healthy mouth campaign. There are plenty of delicious fall foods that can get your mouth in check and give you the healthy smile you want.  There is no time to waste, because fall is right around the corner. Here is a list of 3 healthy fall foods that your smile will love.

1.     Apples are fantastic any time of year, but they are especially great for your smile. The water in the apple helps to remove food from your smile in between brushing, and the crunch helps to keep your jaw in shape.
2.     Pumpkins. The zinc content in pumpkins is great for your bones and can keep your gums in great shape. Consuming some pumpkin can help keep your gums from bleeding and they are a fantastic source of vitamins to keep you in great shape.
3.     Don’t forget the carrots. They are a great source of vitamins not only for your eyes but for your teeth and jaw. The water in the carrots help to keep you from becoming dehydrated. A dry mouth increases the bacteria in your mouth and increases your risk of gum disease and other problems.
