How Can You Tell If You Have a Cavity?

Do you have noticeable sharp pain when you eat or drink? Or when you look at your smile, do you see a hole? You might also be experiencing pain in general when you are doing business. All of these could be a sign that you have a cavity.

Various daily habits can cause cavities, which can become a problem that impacts your sleep, eating, or daily life. Scheduling a consultation with your dentist can help get you back on your feet. If you have a cavity and let it go for too long, you might end up with a situation that causes more pain and is more costly to fix.

Cavities are not necessarily caused by one thing in one day. They are often created over time by a habit you have or an act you do often that wears down the enamel on your teeth. While brushing and flossing reduce the risk of cavities, once a cavity has formed, there is no way to get rid of it without visiting the dentist.

However, visiting your cosmetic dentist can ensure your cavity is fixed, and you are back on the right track with your dental health.

Individuals Let's Talk Types of Dental Crowns

Are you feeling the impact of broken or cracked teeth? Or do you have teeth that have worn down over time? Your smile matters and is tied to your self-confidence. If your smile does not look the way you want it to, we might be able to help.

Dental crowns are a popular option that allows you the flexibility of keeping your other tooth. They will fit over your tooth tightly so you can eat and drink normally. Other than having a smile you love to show off, you won't even notice them. They are made from various materials, and if you can take care of them, they can last on average between 5-10 years. While crowns are not the solution for everyone, the best way to know if a crown is best for you is to contact and schedule a cosmetic dental visit.

Keep Your Smile Healthy

Our gums are sensitive and require us to take a gentle approach to brushing. While brushing is essential to keep your smile healthy, you want to be sure you do not brush too hard. Not taking care of your smile while brushing can lead not only to your gums receding but it can lead to a host of other dental difficulties.

Here are 5 tips to ensure you are brushing correctly:

  1. Don't get a toothbrush with stiff bristles. Not all toothbrushes are created equal. It is essential to have a toothbrush that can remove food from your smile but is not too coarse, as that can damage not only your tooth enamel but also your gums.
  2. Brush at a 45-degree angle. This ensures that the toothbrush bristles are hitting your teeth and gums when you are brushing.
  3. Brush in circles. Going around the mouth in tiny circles can ensure you hit all surfaces.
  4. Brush 2x a day. Brushing twice a day at least ensures you remove food plaque from your teeth and keep your smile healthy.
  5. Remember to brush your tongue. Bacteria can build up on your tongue, causing problems. Be sure to gently run the brush down your tongue and remove any build-up.

While many factors can cause teeth sensitivity, if you are struggling with teeth sensitivity and have questions or concerns, contact our office to schedule a consultation. Contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her office to schedule an appointment today!

Get the Facts About Flossers

Do you struggle to floss your teeth? Flossing is essential to keeping your gums and teeth healthy. Without flossing, you can end up with periodontal disease, your gums might recede, and you can lose your tooth. Flossing removes buildup from between the teeth that causes harmful calculus buildup. Brushing, unfortunately, cannot get between the teeth, which causes a problem in your overall dental health if left untreated. But how do you know what is the right floss for you? Here are 5 facts about flossers that can help you make your decision.

  1. Flossers are easy. You don't have to mess with getting enough floss or end up with too little. From start to finish, you can ensure you have the right amount of floss to floss all your teeth.
  2. You usually only need one flosser for your whole mouth. Going around to be sure you get between each of your teeth, flossers make it easy to reach back teeth and other hard-to-reach areas because your fingers may not get in the way.
  3. It thoroughly cleans your teeth. The flosser easily glides between your teeth without having to maneuver it around or shift to try and reach places.
  4. Flossers are usually safe for flossing if you have dental bridges or other cosmetic dental procedures completed.
  5. Flossers are safe for your smile. They remove plaque, do not damage the gums, and are safe to use to keep your smile healthy.

Don’t Leave Your Smile Vulnerable

You deserve to have a beautiful and healthy smile. Do not leave your smile vulnerable to cavities, periodontal disease or missing, cracked or broken teeth. Taking time to visit your cosmetic dentist and receive a consultation on your smile, can ensure you are on the right track. Nowadays, grabbing a soda and candy bar for lunch may be the norm for you. However, that amount of sugar can impact your smile.

There are so many choices you can make during the day. If you are going to consume sugar or a high carbohydrate meal, instead of waiting until bedtime to brush, you might want to consider brushing your teeth or rinsing with water to remove some of the food particles from the surface of your teeth. The longer these items are glued to the enamel on your teeth the more damage that is done.

If you find you are struggling to have a healthy smile you love, contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team. They can help evaluate and work with you on a plan to get your smile back in order. It is critically important you have a healthy smile because if not it can lead to other more detrimental problems later on.

Did You Know?

A lip tie that wasn't taken care of when you were a baby can cause problems for you as an adult. If you are experiencing some of these common problems, you might have a lip tie that, with a lip tie procedure, can reduce the negative impact on your life.

Here are 5 common problems that you may experience as an adult with a lip tie:

  1. Speech problems. There may be certain sounds you cannot say correctly due to tongue or mouth placement. This can lead to decreased self-confidence when you have to speak to others. You may experience situations where you stutter as you try to say the sound correctly repeatedly.
  2. Experience disruption in your sleep. A lip tie can cause you to move a lot at night, disrupting your sleep and causing trouble in your sleep pattern. You may be uncomfortable or not able to breathe in certain positions.
  3. Do you need help eating certain foods? When you have food in your mouth to chew and swallow properly, you have to move the food around in a certain way. When a lip tie impacts you, limiting the type of food you consume can be more difficult.

While not everyone impacted by a lip tie needs a lip tie procedure, contacting Dr. Judy Strutz, and her team for a consultation can help you get the answers you need.

Do You Use A Water Flosser?

While using regular floss to keep your smile healthy is essential, taking an opportunity a couple of times a week to use a water flosser or water pic can enhance your overall dental health. Water flossers are easy to use and can reach difficult spots between your teeth.

The water pushes food that may be stuck between your teeth that you didn't get with floss free from your smile, removing the risk of buildup and plaque. Adding a water flosser to your regular dental routine decreases the risk of gingivitis or other gum-related problems. When flossing, it can be easy to miss the food and other items between your back teeth or other hard-to-get areas.

Water flossers are gentle on your gums. If your gums are bleeding when you floss or experience other dental problems, a water flosser can reduce the issues you encounter. Water flossers can also remove buildup in the periodontal pocket if you are already struggling with periodontal disease or the start of other dental-related problems.

While a water flosser should not be the only dental floss you use, it can benefit and improve your smile's overall health.  For more information contact Dr. Judy Strutz, and her team today.

Cosmetic Dentistry

While cosmetic dental procedures improve your smile's appearance and beauty, the procedures do so much more for you. This might include increasing your self-esteem, improving your overall health, and ensuring that you have a healthy smile that lasts a lifetime.

When you contact your cosmetic dentist, you will want to share your goals for your smile to ensure you have all the information and possible procedures to improve your dental health. You might be looking for something minor, like fixing a chipped tooth. However, other methods are more in-depth and may take more time and conversation.

Some other procedures that you might talk to your cosmetic dentist about are a gap between your teeth, tooth discoloration, misshapen teeth, or you might have some teeth that are misaligned. No matter the goal or what you are looking for, it is good to start with a thorough consultation with your cosmetic dentist to decide together the next best steps.

For more information, a consultation, or to set up an appointment, contact Dr. Strutz and her team today.

Did you know dental health is the gateway to a healthy body?

Scientists do not know why but gum disease seems to increase the risk of dementia. So you want to keep your smile healthy and decrease the risk.

A healthy smile can be the difference between feeling great and struggling. Dental pain, cavities, or other dental problems can decrease your ability to get a great night's sleep. Less than 8 hours of sleep can drastically impact your mental capacity, focus, and attention to detail.

Caring for your smile and body can help keep infection at bay. When you have periodontal disease or other bacteria, it can enter and cause endocarditis - inflammation of the heart.

Keep your body healthy, drink water, eat healthily, and don't forget to schedule a visit with your cosmetic dentist if you have concerns about your smile. Contact Dr. Judy Strutz for an appointment today.

Toothpaste, Toothpaste, Toothpaste

The other day one of my patient's teenagers asked for charcoal toothpaste. So, of course, this is the latest thing to hit the shelves. So, she tells me that, of course, she went looking. "I mean, who doesn't want charcoal toothpaste." She was surprised to see how many toothpastes for sale had the ADA approval seal as she was looking, which made me smile.

This is so important, and luckily we had just chatted about why this is so important to keep your smile healthy. So with this is on my mind, I wanted to be sure to share it with my readers. Toothpaste that has ADA approval has had its data submitted and published to the ADA Council on Scientific Affairs. It ensures that the product meets specific requirements for safety and efficacy. It may also contain other ingredients that help keep your smile healthy. Without this label, there is no guarantee that the toothpaste will genuinely support and keep your smile healthy. The label can tell you everything you need to know. However, if you have any questions about toothpaste, please contact us today.

Keep Smiling

However, scheduling a visit to your cosmetic dental professional can be beneficial. They can look at options for fixing broken or chipped teeth. 5 Health Related Problems To The Overall Health Of Your Smile

Did you know that your smile and overall health are connected? For example, you can see a breakdown in your overall health when you have a dental infection that is not taken care of. You might want to schedule an appointment with your cosmetic dentist as soon as you notice a problem.

A growing body of research outlines the possible connections between dental infections and the overall impact on your health. For example, suppose you have periodontal disease, and your body is constantly fighting that condition. In that case, it can create problems that impact your ability to fight off other infections. As time passes and the issue is not addressed, a minor infection can turn into sepsis or tooth loss. While periodontal disease and other infections can be troublesome, the implications for your lifelong health are a greater impact on your life.

There is no time like the present, if you are struggling with periodontal disease or other dental concerns, contact us today and schedule an appointment.
