Your Smile Matters

Your smile is so important to your overall health. As we head into the holiday season where Pumpkin spices and all things delicious are in front of us you must keep your smile healthy despite the sweet treats. Here are 6 strategies for ensuring your smile stays healthy this holiday season.

  1. Always Brush! Brushing 2x a day is critical. When you are consuming sugar and other treats brushing, is the only way to remove plaque and food from the enamel.
  2. Floss. Flossing ensures that there is nothing left behind after you have enjoyed the treat.
  3. Drink water. You probably have already heard this a ton of times. But drinking water helps to remove the food from the surface of your tooth. This prevents food from staying on your teeth between brushing sessions.
  4. Visit the dentist. Do not allow problems, concerns, or dental pain to be ignored. Visiting your dentist can be sure that a small problem doesn't turn into a larger problem.
  5. Avoid soda. It can be tempting to consume soda during the holiday season. Avoid this high sugar drink.
  6. Avoid eating treats right before bed, or after you have brushed. By consuming food after you have already brushed your teeth or you are getting ready for bed guarantees that sugar will be building upon the surface of your teeth overnight. This increases your risk of dental decay.
