Fall Is Here!

Enjoy the food but avoid the sugar.

The holiday season is creeping in and so are the cookies, pumpkin spice cakes, and other high sugar foods and drinks. While you can enjoy the pumpkin spice flavoring and pecan treats the sugar can damage not only your smile but your body as well. The extra sugar leaves you open to decay, cavities and periodontal disease. If you are already impacted with broken or missing teeth, these foods can create even a bigger problem for you.

While you may not want to completely stay away from these foods, here are 4 tips to keeping your smile healthy during the fall season.

  1. Bake  treats at home. This way you know exactly what is in them and you can utilize other ingredients in place of sugar.
  2. Consume a small amount and then make sure you brush your teeth afterwards. The sooner you brush your teeth the sooner you can get the sugar off  in order to decrease the chance of decay.
  3. Take a bottle of water with you if you are attending an event where  high sugar foods will be consumed. Water can help rinse your teeth in between eating the  foods you love.
  4. Consume a fresh fruit dish alongside your sweet treat. The water concentration from strawberries or other fruits can help keep your smile in great shape after consuming high sugar foods.

Why Temporary Implants Can Slow You Down

Traditional dentures and partials for missing teeth may have been the way to go a few years ago, but with the technology available for fixed appliances you can now safely leave your removable dentures to the wind.  Not only do traditional dentures take a ton of time, they could be expensive when you needed to replace them often due to misplacing them.

No more. Fixed dentures, once placed, do not need to be taken out, rinsed, or replaced. You can treat them as your real teeth. This means you are able to consume the food you love, or enjoy the motorcycle ride you have wanted to take, all without having to worry about losing your teeth.

Traditional dentures sometimes take months to get the right fit. This may leave you going back into the office a number of times in order to have the dentures work for you. With fixed dentures, this process is less hassle, with less visits to Dr. Strutz and a healthy smile you love as a final result.  Fixed dentures are anchored into the jaw-bone, alleviating the need for  denture adhesives.  This really is the best way to get the smile you deserve after you have been impacted by missing teeth.

Improve Your Smile with Cosmetic Procedures

People normally do not think of brushing, flossing, and eating healthy a cosmetic procedure, but Dr. Judy Strutz and her team consider those things some of the most important cosmetic procedures that you can engage in and that cost the least amount of money. For the low cost of floss, toothpaste and a toothbrush you are well on your way to having a healthy, bright smile.

If you include healthy fruits and vegetables, it is just another important step to keeping your smile healthy for a lifetime. By eating fruits and vegetables that are high in water concentration you can cut down on the risk of tooth decay which can cause your teeth to chip, look stained, or can even lead to losing teeth.

While you are out with friends enjoying a lunch of wine or high carbohydrate food, your mouth is having to do extra work to keep it healthy. So, help your smile out and next time you are out with friends, drink a class of water after your lunch. It will help keep your smile looking healthy and keep food from building up on your teeth in between brushing and flossing.

Are You Too Hard On Your Teeth?

Your teeth are made of the hardest substance in your body, tooth enamel. But they are not indestructible. It matters how you treat your teeth. Otherwise overall wear and tear can begin to break down the appearance and your health. Dr. Judy Strutz and her team recommend that you take care of your smile in order to keep it and your body healthy.

The key to brushing is using gentle circular motions that do not cause the gums to recede. Brushing in gentle circles helps to remove any food particles that are left on your teeth after you have consumed your favorite meal, without causing permanent damage to your gums.  You also want to make sure that you get the back side and the back surface of your teeth. It is easy when brushing to forget to brush the back molars, but they need your love and attention also.

Brushing and flossing regularly is the key to keeping your smile in top shape for a lifetime. People make jokes about smiling while you still have teeth, but if you take care of your smile there will be no reason for you to lose your teeth to decay or other dental problems later on.
