A Little Dental Care

We often put our other needs in front of our dental care. For example, you go to the doctor when you are feeling sick. You take care of your health needs or visit the specialty doctor when you need to get a mole checked out. Your dental care is just as important. Don't forget your six-month check-up and other dental care needs this year.

This dental visit can be the difference between your health and a compromised immune system. While a cavity or decay may seem like something small, it matters! Your dental health is just as important as your medical health. Dental decay or a cavity can turn into a dental problem that costs more money. It can create dental pain that requires you to take off work. Or cause you to miss important events with your family. If this problem goes on for too long it can further create problems with gum disease or dental abscesses. All of these problems lead to damage to your smile that can take time and money to fix.

When you have a softening of the tooth enamel, the damage to the tooth structure can cause a cavity. When a cavity is left untreated the hole in the tooth gets larger. While gum recession or an exposed root is called a "root cavity." Both of these can cause problems to your teeth as well as your overall health. Here are 4 of the most common reasons for cavities,

  1. Consuming; too much food with sugar in it. Sugar breaks down the enamel of the tooth. When sugar is left on the surface of the tooth it causes damage.
  2. Not brushing regularly. Any food you eat builds upon the surface of the tooth and, is broken down into sugar. Brushing your teeth ensures the surface of your tooth is free from food particles that cause problems for your smile.
  3. Plaque build-up. Plaque is a hard yellow substance that builds up your teeth if you do not brush. In the presence of sugar, plague produces acid which, builds up over time causing even more problems for your teeth.
  4. Medical problems. Unfortunately, some medical problems can leave your smile at risk. If you are getting treatment for some types of cancer or other medical procedure, be sure to talk to your doctor about your dental care.

3 Most Common Asked Questions

When going to the dentist there are so many different factors that may play a role in your comfort level. Here are the 7 most common questions that patients ask us to help alleviate the stress you feel. However, if we have left questions unanswered, please contact our office today.

How much time will my procedure take? Different factors will impact the amount of time that your visit takes. For example, problems that may arise during your appointment and treatment planning for the future. While we are as effective and efficient as possible, dental visit times vary from a quick check-in to a longer procedure time for more difficult procedures.

How much will my procedure cost? Several factors go into the cost of your visit. Please schedule a consultation with our team to develop a comprehensive treatment plan.

What precautions are in place for COVID-19?  The team continues to wipe down high touch surfaces. Our staff are wearing the appropriate PPE, and we are asking patients to have other individuals wait outside instead of in our waiting room.

Don’t Wait!

With so many other things to worry about, your smile should not have to be one of them. If you are avoiding the dental office because you are unsure of the protocols in place to protect you, please be assured we are doing what we can to mitigate the risk to our patients. You don’t want to continue to avoid the dental office.

Your smile and the health of your teeth is vital to the health of your overall body. When you have dental pain, decay, or other dental problems, it can diminish your overall health in everything that you do.  For example, you may not sleep well because you have dental pain or because you have a toothache. With less sleep, it is easy to become irritable, frustrated easily, and begin to not enjoy things around you.

You might also begin to withdraw from friends or family. Individuals share with us often that when they do not love their smile, they feel embarrassed. They try and hide their smile, and their self-esteem decreases. However, spending time with a dentist, who can help you navigate what you need for your smile, can ensure your success. From start to finish of the dental process, we will walk you through the treatment plan.

Things around us may be uncertain, but having a healthy smile does not have to be one of those things. For more information or to schedule a dental appointment, contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team.

Do You Need A Crown?

Crowns are a great dental solution that can restore your smile to working condition. There are several reasons why you might decide a crown is best for you. Once a crown is permanently placed it allows you to resume your normal dental habits without having to worry about your smile, or without worrying that you are going to damage your tooth further.

Here is a list of the reasons why Dr. Judy Strutz and her team might recommend a crown for you:

  1. If you have a weak tooth that you are concerned might break.
  2. A tooth that is severely worn down or that is damaged to the point where it is impacting your ability to consume food.
  3. Holding a dental bridge in place is a possiblity if you need more stability for the bridge to hold.
  4. If you have had an infection and a root canal was necessary, a crown will be placed to ensure you do not have further decay or damage.
  5. Your dentist may choose to use a crown in order to cover a damaged tooth, as well as a miss-shapen or miscolored tooth depending on the circumstances.

Your smile is so important and the health of your smile matters to Dr. Strutz and her team. Contact them today for more information about your smile.

Crowns?

Did you know that you have choices when it comes to the type of crown you receive? Do you know if you need a crown or another dental solution to fix a broken or cracked tooth?
A dentist might choose to use a crown to restore the integrity of a broken or damaged tooth. There are several choices that a dentist might use depending on how damaged the tooth is.
Crowns can be created from a variety of materials, including metals, resin, porcelain, and ceramics. Dr. Judy Strutz and her team will talk and discuss with you before completing any dental procedures.
While your teeth may become damaged over time due to a variety of problems such as dental decay, the goal is to get your smile as healthy as possible and back on track. Once a crown is placed, you will want to be sure to be careful until the permanent crown is placed. However, once this happens you can resume normal eating and drinking habits. If you have a dental concern, do not leave it. Dental problems do not heal themselves. Contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team for assistance and schedule a dental appointment today.

Are You Playing With Fire?

Are you putting off the visit to the dentist because of various reasons? You could be playing with fire. Your smile needs a consistent healthy dose of healthy decisions to keep working its best. If you are not brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist, you might be harming your smile. Did you also know that the food you consume has a direct impact on the overall health of your smile?

For example, a small cavity that goes unchecked over time can become infected, requiring extensive and expensive dental procedures to fix. YOu do not want to be out with friends, enjoying a meal with family and have a dental emergency occur because you avoided going to the dentist.

While you may think that it is only minor dental pain and you do not need to take care of it, this can cause larger problems later on down the line. For options or to schedule a dental appointment contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team today. Visiting the dentist will ensure you to have a fabulous smile that lasts a lifetime free of dental pain and decay.
