Sudden Tooth Pain? Here's What Might Be Causing It

Are you impacted by sudden tooth pain that is causing you pain when you eat or drink? Here are five reasons that it might be happening,

    • Eating cold food. Sometimes, when you eat really cold food, your teeth wear down over time, exposing the soft inner part called dentin.
    • If you are stressed, you might grind your teeth. Or, when you are sleeping without knowing, you could be grinding your teeth. A night guard might minimize the problem. Scheduling a dental visit with Dr. Strutz and her team can help identify the problem and come up with the best solution for you.
    • Have you started a new workout program where you are training heavily? Dentists have found that individuals training for a triathlon or other events like that can sometimes have dental pain. While they are not 100% sure of the cause, if this impacts you, scheduling a visit with your cosmetic dentist can help ensure you do not have something more serious impacting you.
    • Nerve damage. While this is not necessarily common, nerve damage in your brain's nerves may cause pain when engaging in day-to-day activities such as eating or brushing your teeth.
    • Unfortunately, receding gums can happen over time. As more of the gum recedes, exposing more of the tooth can cause problems. This might also indicate a more significant problem. So, visiting the dentist is essential if you are experiencing pain or noticing your gums receding.

For more information or options for tooth pain, schedule a visit with Dr. Judy Strutz and her dental team.

Cosmetic Dentistry

While cosmetic dental procedures improve your smile's appearance and beauty, the procedures do so much more for you. This might include increasing your self-esteem, improving your overall health, and ensuring that you have a healthy smile that lasts a lifetime.

When you contact your cosmetic dentist, you will want to share your goals for your smile to ensure you have all the information and possible procedures to improve your dental health. You might be looking for something minor, like fixing a chipped tooth. However, other methods are more in-depth and may take more time and conversation.

Some other procedures that you might talk to your cosmetic dentist about are a gap between your teeth, tooth discoloration, misshapen teeth, or you might have some teeth that are misaligned. No matter the goal or what you are looking for, it is good to start with a thorough consultation with your cosmetic dentist to decide together the next best steps.

For more information, a consultation, or to set up an appointment, contact Dr. Strutz and her team today.

3 Reasons for Tooth Loss

Are you concerned about losing your teeth? Or having a tooth fall out because of dental decay? Knowing the top 3 causes can help you prevent this situation from occurring. While there are incredible advances in dental procedures, not being in this situation is ideal for our patients. Here are the top 5 reasons:

  2. Not getting dental care. Regular dental care is key to keeping your smile healthy.
  3. You have high blood pressure. Unfortunately, you will want to visit your doctor if you are experiencing problems with high blood pressure before it becomes a problem. Please let our staff know at your visit, however, if you are at risk or experiencing high blood pressure.

We are here to help. If you have concerns about the health of your smile, contact us or schedule a visit with Dr. Judy Strutz and her team.

Protect Your Smile This Holiday

It can be easy to overindulge in a sweet treat or a treat that is high in carbohydrates this holiday season. The temptation of apple pie, pumpkin-flavored drinks, and sweet buttery croissants are cooked and ready for you to eat. No problem. However, you might want to protect your smile.

Did you know?

That the higher amount of carbohydrates in your food the, more likely you are to have dental decay if you do not take care of it. The problem with carbohydrates is that they stick to the enamel of your tooth. As it stays on your teeth, it turns into sugar. Once this occurs, you can get cavities, and cavities left untreated turn into other problems that you do not want to have to deal with.

Protect your smile by following these few short steps,

  1. Brush your teeth after eating.
  2. Eat foods with minimal carbohydrates and sugar before bed.
  3. Take care of any dental concerns right away.
  4. Drink water. When you drink water, it will remove the food from the surface of your teeth.

These 4 tips may not protect you from all dental problems, but they will minimize the risk. For more information or strategies to protect your smile, contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team.

If Not Now, When?

Your smile is so important for your overall health. You want to be sure you are taking proper care to fix any problems you may be experiencing. If you have a broken or cracked tooth getting this fixed right away is critical to your health. If you do not fix it now, when will it be convenient? The goal of dental care is to prevent problems from arising. If you have a healthy smile, it is free from decay, plaque, and other dental problems. We want to be sure to keep it that way. Having a quick dental check can decrease the risk of further dental problems occurring. This check-up can also help you plan for any work that maybe you need to get done that you have been putting off.

Great oral health habits such as brushing, flossing, eating foods with low carbohydrates, or drinking water after you consume food with a high level of carbohydrates will keep your smile healthy. However, you want to ensure you stop by the dentist for your regular visits.

Do You Need A Crown?

Crowns are a great dental solution that can restore your smile to working condition. There are several reasons why you might decide a crown is best for you. Once a crown is permanently placed it allows you to resume your normal dental habits without having to worry about your smile, or without worrying that you are going to damage your tooth further.

Here is a list of the reasons why Dr. Judy Strutz and her team might recommend a crown for you:

  1. If you have a weak tooth that you are concerned might break.
  2. A tooth that is severely worn down or that is damaged to the point where it is impacting your ability to consume food.
  3. Holding a dental bridge in place is a possiblity if you need more stability for the bridge to hold.
  4. If you have had an infection and a root canal was necessary, a crown will be placed to ensure you do not have further decay or damage.
  5. Your dentist may choose to use a crown in order to cover a damaged tooth, as well as a miss-shapen or miscolored tooth depending on the circumstances.

Your smile is so important and the health of your smile matters to Dr. Strutz and her team. Contact them today for more information about your smile.

Are You Playing With Fire?

Are you putting off the visit to the dentist because of various reasons? You could be playing with fire. Your smile needs a consistent healthy dose of healthy decisions to keep working its best. If you are not brushing, flossing, and visiting the dentist, you might be harming your smile. Did you also know that the food you consume has a direct impact on the overall health of your smile?

For example, a small cavity that goes unchecked over time can become infected, requiring extensive and expensive dental procedures to fix. YOu do not want to be out with friends, enjoying a meal with family and have a dental emergency occur because you avoided going to the dentist.

While you may think that it is only minor dental pain and you do not need to take care of it, this can cause larger problems later on down the line. For options or to schedule a dental appointment contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team today. Visiting the dentist will ensure you to have a fabulous smile that lasts a lifetime free of dental pain and decay.

Your Smile Matters!

Your smile matters, and your smile must be as healthy as possible right now. If you have dental decay, periodontal disease, or another problem with your teeth that is impacting you, it could be impacting your overall health as well. By visiting the dental office you can consult with Dr. Judy Strutz and her team. Here are 3 cosmetic dental procedures that might improve the health of your smile.

  1. Composite Dental Bonding. This is one of the easiest and most efficient procedures to improve your smile if you have a crack in your tooth that is minor.

  1. Dental veneers. There is a layer of material that is placed over the existing tooth. This helps to improve the look of your smile but doesn’t damage the structure or integrity of your smile in any way.

  1. Dentures. These are not your grandma or grandpa’s dentures. You no longer have to worry about dentures falling out in the mash potatoes at Thanksgiving dinner, or worry about finding your teeth in the morning before you get out of bed. There are now options to get your smile back in order and get you back to where you want to be.

Your smile is the backbone of your health. Don’t take chances. For more information on other cosmetic dental health procedures, contact our team today!

Your Smile Matters!

While we live in an interesting time right now and things might be changing rapidly for you. Don't stop learning and growing, and taking care of your smile. It is so important that your smile is healthy because if you are not taking care of your smile, your overall health can suffer.
It is easy to let certain habits go when you are at home all day or working from home. So, how can you continue with healthy smile habits when your schedule is disrupted?

  1. Brush your teeth and floss as soon as your feet hit the floor. You don't want to get other things in the way and sidetrack you.
  2. Pack healthy snacks to keep by your side. It's easy to eat whatever when your kitchen is right next to you. So, pack healthy snacks. Or ensure you have healthy fruits and vegetables set aside for you to consume during the day. They are great for your smile.
  3. Drink water! Drinking water is a fantastic way to keep your smile healthy. It rinses food from your teeth. This ensures that food does not stick to the enamel on your teeth.
While these habits are not new, they are great reminders to keep your smile healthy in time, when things have changed drastically for some. For more information on keeping your smile healthy, contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team!

Spending Time At Home

While some people may enjoy being at home, many people are struggling with isolation or not having the opportunity to be with people in person. While this can be difficult developing, great dental and health habits can be a great way to ensure you have a healthy smile when quarantine is over. Here are three strategies you can use to start a healthy habit:
  1. Define your why and start with what healthy people do. For example, if you want to brush more frequently. Ask yourself why you want this habit? What will you get out of having a healthy smile when you brush 3x a day or 2x a day? Put those reminders around you. For example, on a sticky note on the bathroom mirror or on the refrigerator when you go to get food. Take a picture of you with your current smile and then have a picture up of the healthy smile you are looking to have.
  2. Don't spend more than 2 minutes. Brushing your smile does not take a lot of time.
  3. Start with this sentence, when I wake up, I'm going to brush my teeth and then __________. Insert into the blank something fun you get to do when you have brushed your teeth. This is a great way to reinforce in your brain; something fantastic is going to happen once you get done with the task.
