4 Dental Problems You Shouldn't Ignore

There is a multitude of dental problems that can occur over time. While something may happen that seems small, it could lead to a larger problem. The key is to take care of a minor problem now so that you don't have to worry about them later on. Here are 4 dental problems you want to get looked at.

  1. Pain. Dental pain is not common. Nor should it be happening. If you are experiencing dental pain a quick dental appointment can ensure you do not have a minor problem turn into something else.
  2. Cracked or broken tooth. If you have a cracked or broken tooth, you can need major dental procedures later on to fix it.
  3. Bleeding. Bleeding gums could be a sign of a major dental problem such as periodontal disease. Taking time to get your dental health back on track is key.
  4. Bad breath that is not due to something you have eaten. Bad breath that happens and is not because of the food you are consuming, it could be a sign of a dental problem that can be fixed by visiting your cosmetic dental team.

For more information or to schedule a consultation, contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team.

A Little Dental Care

We often put our other needs in front of our dental care. For example, you go to the doctor when you are feeling sick. You take care of your health needs or visit the specialty doctor when you need to get a mole checked out. Your dental care is just as important. Don't forget your six-month check-up and other dental care needs this year.

This dental visit can be the difference between your health and a compromised immune system. While a cavity or decay may seem like something small, it matters! Your dental health is just as important as your medical health. Dental decay or a cavity can turn into a dental problem that costs more money. It can create dental pain that requires you to take off work. Or cause you to miss important events with your family. If this problem goes on for too long it can further create problems with gum disease or dental abscesses. All of these problems lead to damage to your smile that can take time and money to fix.

For more information on your smile and how to ensure your dental health is where it needs to be, contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team.

Visiting The Dentist During the COVID-19

While most states have opened back up, you might still have some concerns or anxiety about COVID-19 and visiting the dentist. We assure you that we take the procedures for safety and cleanliness in our office as a top priority.  We want all of our patients to feel safe.

We are open and ready to support your dental needs however, we ask that if you are feeling sick, have a fever, cough, or just do not feel well that you stay home and re-schedule your appointment. Your health is more important than anything else and we want to be sure you take care of yourself.

If you do visit the office, we have PPE that our team is wearing in order to protect us, and you. We are continuing with the sanitization procedures of our chairs and dental materials that we have always done. However, we are also asking that you do not bring other individuals with you to your appointment in order to decrease the risk of exposure and decrease the number of individuals who are in the waiting room. You Deserve The Best Smile!

While people may think their bodies' health is more important than their dental health, however, your dental health is a direct reflection of your overall health. While the food you eat can negatively impact your health it can impact your dental health as well. Here are 4 rules to keep your smile healthy.

  1. Drink water. I'm sure you hear this all the time. Every time you turn around there is a magazine, blog, or other written form that talks about how your consumption of water is the key to your health. Water is fantastic for your smile too. It rinses food from sticking to the enamel on your teeth to decrease the risk of decay.
  2. Eat vegetables. Vegetables contain a high concentration of water, and because they are low in carbohydrates they do not stick to your teeth.
  3. Brush, floss, and rinse with at least water. You want to brush and floss your teeth every day. You have to be able to take care of your smile. This is the best way to do it.
Take care of your smile. If you need help, reach out to us. We're here to ensure you can show your smile to the world.

Take Care Of Yourself!

There are so many things you can do in your home right now in order to keep your health up and you on the right track. Each one of these small habits can improve your overall mood, which can improve your overall health. Let me ask you? Have you struggled to remember to brush your teeth every day or to floss? While these things seem small, they make a large difference for the overall health of your smile. So, what habit do you need to change? Or what small change do you need to make?

Let’s break it down.

What time do you wake up in the morning? Before doing anything else, step in the bathroom, grab your toothbrush, set your timer, and brush for 2 minutes. You want to be sure to gently brush in circles gently.

This brings me to habit #2. You want to brush gently. Gentle circles help to keep your gums in great shape. If you brush too vigorously it can break down and damage your gums.

Once you have completed brushing in each of the four quadrants, play your favorite song, listen to a book on your phone or download your favorite podcast and begin to floss. You want to gently floss between each one of your teeth. Flossing is the best thing you can do for your gums.

These two things can improve your dental health, which can improve your physical health and when you feel good physically, you can change your overall mood. It doesn’t take a drastic change just a small habit change. For more information about healthy habits contact, Dr. Judy Strutz and her team.

Establish Healthy Dental Habits

Now can be such a difficult time. There is so much going on in the world around you and so many things that can pull your attention. Building and establishing a routine can help to decrease other problems that you may be facing. We recommend you start your day by brushing and flossing your teeth.

Have a clean and healthy smile can help you to feel motivated to complete other tasks during the day. Once your smile is healthy, your body can begin to heal as well. If your gums are bleeding or you have pain when you brush or floss you will want to reach out to your dentist to get your smile back on track. Did you know, an unhealthy smile can impact your overall health also.

Other ways to keep your smile and body healthy is consuming vegetables that are high in water content. This will remove other food from the surface of the teeth. The longer that food stays on the enamel the more at risk you are of other dental problems. While now is a unique time for so many, your smile should still be a top priority.

For more information on keeping your smile in great shape, contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team.

Keep Your Tooth Brush In Great Shape!

Your toothbrush is specially designed with you in mind. The bristles are attached in such a way as to remove items from the surface of your teeth. Without the bristles, food would be able to build up. The longer carbohydrates and other foods stay on the surface of your teeth the more opportunity for decay to happen.

The toothbrush has been around since 3000 BC with just a little bit different design, and while your toothbrush is designed to help you out, it needs to sometimes be changed out. You might be guilty of holding on to your toothbrush for years, but that is not ideal.

The important job of your toothbrush is important and having a top-notch tool to get the job done is even more important. You might be asking yourself, how often should you change out your toothbrush? Or how do you know if your toothbrush is no longer doing the job that it should be doing?

It is recommended by The American Dental Association that you change out your toothbrush every 3 – 4 months. This ensures that the bristles are not worn down and that bacteria, has not built up. And during cold and flu season, if you find yourself ill, change that toothbrush, too.

Are Your Sensitive Teeth Getting In Your Way?

Sensitivity in teeth can be a real problem when you sit down and are trying to enjoy your bowl of ice cream or when you just want to enjoy that cup of hot tea. Are your sensitive teeth getting you down and causing you problems when you are out with friends? Here are 4 things you can do in order to decrease sensitivity.

1.     Don’t brush too hard. You may be brushing off enamel that is critical to protect the teeth. The enamel is the outer covering of your tooth and the thinner it becomes the more sensitive your teeth will be. When the tooth enamel is worn down, it causes nerve endings to be exposed that cause more problems.

2.     Avoid acidic foods. This also causes wearing on the tooth enamel and increases your risk of sensitivity.

3.     Avoid grinding your teeth. If you find that you are grinding your teeth, get a fitted mouth guard that can support your teeth so you are not grinding tooth on tooth impacting the tooth enamel.

4.     Take a break or avoid bleaching your teeth. While everyone wants a healthy, white smile, bleaching takes off a layer of enamel in order to remove the stains and show off the healthy white part. This can increase sensitivity over time. However, there may be other solutions that you can use in order to get the smile you are looking for.

For more options on improving the health and sensitivity of your smile, contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team.

Stand Up For Your Smile!

We often take our teeth for granted. They can take a beating every day and yet we don’t always repay them with healthy habits. Most people often go days, weeks or months without thinking about such an important part of your body, your teeth. But your mouth is so critical to the overall health of your body. When you are tired, run down, and ready to call it quits, your teeth can step in by chewing that protein source you need to get you back on track. But how do you repay them? By consuming unhealthy snacks for a quick fix? Or forgetting to brush and floss after you have eaten that treat?

Your smile is such a valuable part of your body and your overall well-being. Your smile is just waiting for you to begin to stand up for it and show it off to all of your friends. There is no need to wait for a tragedy to happen such as unwanted inflammation of the gums, or bleeding when you brush and floss, before you change your dental habits.

For more information on positive dental habits to improve your smile, contact Dr. Strutz and her team today.

Love your smile, Tips To Decreasing Your Fear

Cosmetic dental teams sometimes get a bad rap but they are the quiet hearos behind the scene cheering your healthy habits and your smile on. They are the ones that can help you to become the best version of yourself, because the health of your body starts with your smile. If you have broken, damaged or periodontal disease, these problems can drastically decrease not only the health of your smile, but begin to negatively impact your organs as well.  But we also understand that the fear you may have around visiting the cosmetic dentist is real, so here are 7 tips to decreasing your fear at the dentist.

1. Schedule your appointment in the morning. This gets it out of the way and doesn’t give you much time to dwell on the fear that you are feeling.

2.Before your appointment do something calming, such as listening to music, taking a bath or going for a walk. Anything that is going to refocus your mind on happy thoughts.

3. Tell your dentist. You do not have to carry this burden of fear alone. They can help you through this in order to ensure you have the least amount of anxiety going into the procedure as possible.

4. Take care of your smile in between visits. Brush, floss and eat healthy foods. This can help decrease the procedures you need to keep your smile looking great.

5.Get to know your dental team and the procedure you are going to have done. This can help put your mind at ease.

Dr. Judy Strutz and her team always enjoy helping patients have achieve the look they are going for with their smile. For more questions about how to manage your dental fears contact Dr. Strutz and her team.
