5 Health Related Problems To The Overall Health Of Your Smile

Did you know that your smile and overall health are connected? For example, you can see a breakdown in your overall health when you have a dental infection that is not taken care of. You might want to schedule an appointment with your cosmetic dentist as soon as you notice a problem.

A growing body of research outlines the possible connections between dental infections and the overall impact on your health. For example, suppose you have periodontal disease, and your body is constantly fighting that condition. In that case, it can create problems that impact your ability to fight off other infections. As time passes and the issue is not addressed, a minor infection can turn into sepsis or tooth loss. While periodontal disease and other infections can be troublesome, the implications for your lifelong health are a greater impact on your life.

There is no time like the present, if you are struggling with periodontal disease or other dental concerns, contact us today and schedule an appointment.

Now Is Your Time!

You deserve to have a healthy smile. Think of your smile as the foundation of your house. If your foundation has decay, problems or you have broken or cracked teeth, it can create a problem for your overall health. However, if you take care of your teeth, then it is easier for your body to run at full capacity.

For example, periodontal disease is known to cause an increased risk of heart disease. The problem with periodontal disease is that your body is always fighting an infection. The food you consume turns to acid in your mouth, the more acid or the higher carbohydrate count in your food can cause more problems for your smile. While brushing, and flossing is a great strategy for combating this problem, it is critically important to take the time needed to visit the dentist. You want to ensure these problems are not getting worse and that there is not a build-up of bacteria on the surface of your teeth.

However, you also want to plan for regular dental cleanings. You wan to be sure you have cosmetic dental procedures completed if you have cracked or broken teeth, and visiting your cosmetic dentist regularly can ensure you have a smile that is going to last a lifetime. Take Charge of Your Smile

Dental problems are solely in your own hands. Only you can prevent problems with your smile. Taking risks with your smile or not taking care of problems that arise can cause other problems with your smile that impact you for a lifetime. Recent research has found that not only is there direct health risks for you, but if you are pregnant there may be risks of early birth, low birth weight babies and preeclampsia. But you can take charge of your smile ensuring you have a healthy smile for a lifetime.

In order to make sure that your smile is healthy there are easy steps you can take. Brush and floss regularly especially if you consume a high carbohydrate meal. The more carbohydrates you consume the more likely you are to have food stick to the surface of your teeth which then turns to sugar. The sugar then begins to eat the enamel causing problems for your smile.

Visit the dentist on a regular basis and ask your cosmetic dentist for options on how to improve any dental problems you are facing. Don’t let them get away from you. Taking charge of your smile can ensure you minimize dental emergencies.

It Is Only One Tooth; Does It Really Matter?

If you have lost one tooth due to a dental emergency or other dental problem, you may not think it matters much. As it is, you have thirty-one other teeth that can support your food habits and keep your smile in shape. However, this is just not the case.

Research shows that once a person loses one tooth they are likely to lose a few more at least within the year of losing the other one. The smile also begins to compensate for the tooth that is missing. The teeth begin to shift into place where they do not belong. While this may seem like a great thing in the beginning, it can create jaw problems, alignment issues and eventually lead to you cracking or breaking another tooth because the alignment is off.

Taking care of your smile is critical to ensure that it will last a lifetime. If you have a missing tooth, contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team in order to schedule a consultation. Just sitting down with a cosmetic dental team can help to decide what is the best course of action moving forward to get you the smile you deserve.

7 Dental Health Risks You Might Be Taking Every Day

It can be easy to take your smile for granted. You wake up, maybe brush for two minutes, maybe you decide to wait till after breakfast. You might forget even altogether in the rush of the morning. We always assume that our smile is going to carry us through and we’ll just get things done the next time. But here are 7 dental risks you make be taking every day that are causing problems for your smile.

1.     Not brushing in time. When you consume high sugar foods or drinks and high carbohydrate foods, the length of time that the substances stay on the surface of your teeth the longer the opportunity for problems to arise.
2.     Consuming food that is too cold.
3.     Not flossing. Removing food from between the gums is essential to your gum health. If you’re starting to see your gums bleed during routine brushing and flossing sessions that can be the sign of worse things to come.
4.     Chewing on Ice can damage the enamel causing cracked and broken teeth.
5.     Consuming less than 8 servings of fruits and vegetables a day.
6.     Eating foods that are high in acid.
7.     Consuming several sodas, a day.

Your dental health is so critical to your body health. Keep your smile in great shape and kick these habits to the curb.

Life After Oral Cancer

Did you have oral cancer that has left you missing part of your jaw? Or have you experienced other dental problems from chemotherapy or radiation that have impacted your smile? You have options. Dr. Judy Strutz and her team have extensive experience in reconstructive options for oral cancer and other dental problems that impact patients after their cancer treatment and surgery. There are a variety of treatment options that can now be helpful in order to treat this type of problem.

If you are in need of bone augmentation due to missing jaw bone it may be an option to use bone from another location in order to rebuild the jaw. The important thing is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Strutz in order to determine what is going to be the best plan moving forward in order to support you and your dental needs. The dental options a few years ago are not the same as they are now and the doors have opened into other options to improve your smile.

Sometimes even dental implants are an option after the jaw surgery has been done, and can replace missing teeth. They are placed in the jaw with screws that help them stay in place. This replaces the need for removable devices. But having said that, don’t say no to a removable appliance, because that might just be the right choice to bring back the facial contours. In any event, there are options and you would do well to explore yours.

The Health Of Your Smile Should Come First

Over time researchers have found a body-mouth connection that demonstrates how critical it is that people take care of their smile. It can seem that brushing and flossing are not critical and that you can skip a day or two, but this is not the case. Your smile needs to be free of dental decay, periodontal disease, and other problems in order to also help keep your body in the best shape it can be in.

Keeping your smile healthy can help to keep your energy levels high and your body in great shape. Years ago, if you were pregnant, your doctor didn’t necessarily send you to your periodontist or if you had cracked or broken teeth they most likely did not recommend you visit a prosthodontist, but now doctors and prosthodontists, like Dr. Judy Strutz, understand the importance of keeping your smile in great shape.

The challenge with having dental problems is that when you have an infection in your mouth, your body moves in to fight the infection. Not taking care of the problem means that your body is always fighting the infection and your immune system is in overdrive. If you are concerned about the health of your smile, contact Dr. Strutz and her team.
