Get The Facts About Teeth Whitening

If you have stains on your teeth from the food you consume, coffee or other substances, it might be time for you to have a teeth whitening procedure done. If you are going to get your teeth whitened you should know the facts. Here are 6 tips to getting your teeth whitened.

Do your homework. No matter whether you are visiting your cosmetic dentist to get this procedure done or you are doing it at home, make sure you get the facts about the type of whitening material you are using and what is going to be best to meet your needs.

Get custom made whitening trays. It is important to not get just any whitening trays, but to make sure that you have trays that fit your smile. If you go to your cosmetic dentist, they will ensure you have trays that fit your smile.

Know the side effects. You can end up with sensitive teeth based on the product that is used. However, based on you and your smile, there may be other side effects. It is important to ask your cosmetic dentist what side effects might impact you.

Know what to expect. There is a range of whitening that will occur for your teeth dependent upon various items. For example, what substances you use, how long you use the product and the types of whitening material that is used. Knowing what to expect ahead of time can help you to achieve the results you are looking for.

Your smile is important and the look of it matters. By taking the time to get your teeth whitened by a cosmetic dentist can help ensure you receive the results you want. For more information on teeth whitening, contact Dr. Judy Strutz and her team.

Are Your Sensitive Teeth Getting In Your Way?

Sensitivity in teeth can be a real problem when you sit down and are trying to enjoy your bowl of ice cream or when you just want to enjoy that cup of hot tea. Are your sensitive teeth getting you down and causing you problems when you are out with friends? Here are 4 things you can do in order to decrease sensitivity.

1.     Don’t brush too hard. You may be brushing off enamel that is critical to protect the teeth. The enamel is the outer covering of your tooth and the thinner it becomes the more sensitive your teeth will be. When the tooth enamel is worn down, it causes nerve endings to be exposed that cause more problems.

2.     Avoid acidic foods. This also causes wearing on the tooth enamel and increases your risk of sensitivity.

3.     Avoid grinding your teeth. If you find that you are grinding your teeth, get a fitted mouth guard that can support your teeth so you are not grinding tooth on tooth impacting the tooth enamel.

4.     Take a break or avoid bleaching your teeth. While everyone wants a healthy, white smile, bleaching takes off a layer of enamel in order to remove the stains and show off the healthy white part. This can increase sensitivity over time. However, there may be other solutions that you can use in order to get the smile you are looking for.

Do You Have Sensitive Teeth?

Sensitive teeth may not be just something you have to live with. There are different causes of sensitive teeth and Dr. Judy Strutz and her team can help evaluate what the root cause of the problem is in order to help you come up with a solution that saves you from pain.  Usually sensitivity or pain comes after you have consumed something hot, cold, sweet or acidic. Each of these things can cause a continual problem if you are trying to consume a variety of food and enjoy your life.

Consuming high acidic beverages, gum recession, and brushing incorrectly are just a few of the reasons why sensitivity may occur. After time, the dentin on the front of the teeth begins to wear down. Once this has worn down, because the dentin contains a large number of pores, it may begin to cause sensitivity. You do have options. Veeners and crowns are a great way to decrease sensitivity while keeping your natural smile intact.

Veneers and crowns both fit over natural teeth. They are shaped and colored to match the rest of your teeth. Once they are placed you are able to eat and consume any food or drinks that you would naturally.

Keep Your Smile White By Avoiding These 4 Items

The food you eat is as important as brushing and flossing on a regular basis. Different types of foods can stain your teeth causing them to look dirty and unhealthy. Avoiding these 4 foods can help to naturally keep your smile white and healthy without expensive procedures or whitening kits that cause your teeth to be sensitive. A white and healthy smile can increase your self-confidence. Millions of people a year flock to the store to purchase at home whitening kits, but instead of spending your money on these items, you can help by taking precautions and minimizing consumption of certain foods and drink.

Minimize your consumption of black tea and coffee. The more of these you drink, the more problems you may have with stains.  A cup a day may not impact your smile, but a pot a day can cause a problem for your smile.

Highly pigmented foods such as blueberries and strawberries can cause staining. If you do choose to consume them, eat them in smaller amounts. You should also brush and floss as soon as possible in order to remove the juice from your teeth.

Do you love curry? The deep yellow of the curry can cause staining on the front of your teeth over time. While again a small amount of curry may not cause problems for your smile, consuming large amounts for long periods of time can keep you from enjoying a pearly white smile.

Red wine, is a controversial topic. One day a glass of wine is good for you and the next it is a problem. But if you are going to consume red wine, it is better to brush your teeth immediately after consuming it.

Dr. Judy Strutz and her team recommends consuming foods that help keep your smile white and healthy.  For more information on food that can improve your smile, contact her and her team today.
