Keep Your Smile White By Avoiding These 4 Items

The food you eat is as important as brushing and flossing on a regular basis. Different types of foods can stain your teeth causing them to look dirty and unhealthy. Avoiding these 4 foods can help to naturally keep your smile white and healthy without expensive procedures or whitening kits that cause your teeth to be sensitive. A white and healthy smile can increase your self-confidence. Millions of people a year flock to the store to purchase at home whitening kits, but instead of spending your money on these items, you can help by taking precautions and minimizing consumption of certain foods and drink.

Minimize your consumption of black tea and coffee. The more of these you drink, the more problems you may have with stains.  A cup a day may not impact your smile, but a pot a day can cause a problem for your smile.

Highly pigmented foods such as blueberries and strawberries can cause staining. If you do choose to consume them, eat them in smaller amounts. You should also brush and floss as soon as possible in order to remove the juice from your teeth.

Do you love curry? The deep yellow of the curry can cause staining on the front of your teeth over time. While again a small amount of curry may not cause problems for your smile, consuming large amounts for long periods of time can keep you from enjoying a pearly white smile.

Red wine, is a controversial topic. One day a glass of wine is good for you and the next it is a problem. But if you are going to consume red wine, it is better to brush your teeth immediately after consuming it.

Dr. Judy Strutz and her team recommends consuming foods that help keep your smile white and healthy.  For more information on food that can improve your smile, contact her and her team today.

You Are Worth It!

You give time to your family, time to your friends, clean up after the kids,  and get coffee with a friend. In the end of all this may lead you feeling tired, run down, and you may not have time for yourself.  But it is important for you to take care of yourself and your smile. Here are 3 tips, from Dr. Judy Strutz, that you can follow through with to keep your smile in great shape.

1.     Oil pulling. Complete oil pulling first thing in the morning when you wake up. Utilize coconut or sunflower oil in order to remove food particles from between the teeth. Don’t swallow any of the oil, but just swish back and forth for about twenty minutes.

2.     Fix broken teeth. While a broken tooth may not seem like a big deal it can impact your smile and your other teeth! One broken tooth can lead to wearing down other teeth, causing pain and other dental problems.

3.     Visit the prosthodontist if you have jaw trouble. Don’t let problems and pain continue as many times it can easily and affordably be corrected. Jaw pain could mean your bite is off, which can then cause you to break teeth as you bite down to consume some of your favorite foods.

Don’t waste time with a smile you don’t love. You are worth the smile that will last you a lifetime.

Day Time Sleepiness

Do you hit that afternoon time of sleepiness? Are you downing caffeine all day to attempt to stay awake? Sleep apnea can negatively impact your life in multiple ways. You may find yourself falling asleep at a stoplight, missing deadlines, or making simple mistakes. There is no need to suffer silently with this potentially deadly disorder.

Dr. Judith Strutz can evaluate your sleep patterns based on examining your mouth. Recommend a home sleep study and can then fit you with a custom appliance if appropriate. The appliance works similar to a mouth guard. It will either push the tongue down or the jaw forward. Opening up the airway allows you to enjoy a restful night’s sleep. This procedure will take a few visits, as Dr. Strtuz needs to examine and fit your mouth for the correct appliance.

Fifty - seventy million Americans suffer from sleep apnea. This is not a disorder you can let slide, and it usually does not go away on its own. While this epidemic costs millions in car accidents and loss of work productivity it also is a disorder that has multiple options for you to live a better, healthier life.
