The Impact Of Sugar On Your Smile

Did you know that sugar is dangerous for your smile? It's not just the sugar on the teeth that causes the problem. The larger issue is that it creates the perfect environment for sugar to attack your teeth. When you consume foods with sugar in them, it breaks down to acid. The acid then attacks the enamel of the teeth.

Once this occurs, you begin to have problems with cavities and tooth decay. The problem is you can't avoid this process once you have consumed the sugar item because it mixes with the bacteria in your saliva. The situation is not hopeless; however if you are going to consume foods with sugar in them, be sure to brush your teeth.

It’s Not Just A Cosmetic Procedure, It’s A Life Altering Change!

You may have believed in the past that getting a cosmetic dental procedure was not necessary because it was perhaps not covered by your dental insurance. Maybe, you didn’t want to spend the money on your smile taking away from other things you need to purchase, but did you know, that a cosmetic dental procedure can improve your self-confidence which can increase the opportunities that are coming your way? Not only that, but many insurance companies are recognizing the benefits of cosmetic dentistry and changing their policies to reflect that.

Having a dental cosmetic procedure can mean the difference between improving your life for the better and not feeling well. Decay, periodontal disease, missing or cracked teeth can all lead not only to extreme self-confidence issues, but can decrease your health.

If you have missing or cracked teeth there may be healthy foods you are not able to enjoy because biting down on them hurts or causes extreme pain. Soon you notice you begin to avoid them. Most individuals who have one missing tooth soon after lose more. After a few teeth are missing, the mouth begins to fold forward and the jaw does not get the right pressure it needs to keep it working properly.

3 Foods That Improve The Look Of Your Smile

You already have read the research that supports that wine, coffee, soda and other drinks and foods can be detrimental to your smile. With all the choices these days, it may leave you feeling frustrated and overwhelmed. You may even feel that no matter what you eat at some point it is going to damage the look of your smile, but here is a list of 3 foods that you can enjoy guilt free. Not only are they great for your teeth but they are good for your body as well.

1.     Watermelon. The high concentration of water makes this an ideal treat for not only the summer but winter as well. The water removes leftover food from your teeth in between brushing and flossing sessions. There are no artificial colors to stain your teeth and it will leave you feeling great.
2.     Peppers. Mix and match them or eat them raw. Peppers are another great food that contain a high-water concentration and will leave you feeling energized and ready for your day.
3.     An apple a day. There is no getting around this one, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. The freshness, high water concentration and crunch of an apple makes this an ideal treat for your smile. The crunchiness encourages saliva production which keeps food from sticking to your teeth.
